We are currently partnering with a State Government client to recruit a professional Finance Business Analyst (ASO5) for an initial three-month contract, with a possibility of extension.

This role is pivotal in supporting the department’s financial oversight, requiring a candidate who can blend technical financial expertise with the ability to influence senior decision-makers.


Primary Focus

The core objective of this position is to provide comprehensive financial oversight regarding Vehicle and Building Repairs & Maintenance. The successful candidate will investigate historical data and budget variances to ensure transparency and provide the department with actionable financial intelligence.

Key Responsibilities

  • Financial Analysis: Perform detailed analysis of historical expenditure, specifically focused on repairs and maintenance portfolios.

  • Variance Reporting: Investigate and report on budget variances, providing clear justifications and identifying underlying trends.

  • Executive Briefing: Prepare and present formal briefings, ensuring complex financial data is accessible and clear for management and executive stakeholders.

  • System Management: Utilise General Ledger systems to extract and manipulate data, ensuring a high standard of data integrity.


Selection Criteria

To be successful in this State Government engagement, you will require:

  • Professional Experience: Up to five years of experience in financial analysis, demonstrating a disciplined and analytical approach to complex data sets.

  • Technical Skills: Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel (including Pivot Tables and VLOOKUPs). Experience with Basware or comparable General Ledger systems is highly regarded.

  • Educational Qualifications: A tertiary degree in Finance, Accounting, or a relevant discipline.

  • Communication: Exceptional soft skills with a proven ability to brief senior executives and present data with clarity and professionalism.

  • Compliance: A current National Police Clearance is a mandatory requirement for this role. Previous experience within a government framework is advantageous but not essential.


Contract Details

  • Term: Initial 3-month temporary contract (extension potential).

  • Timeline: We are currently sourcing candidates as a priority, with interviews projected to commence next week.
